RFID Flexible Absorbers

Würth Elektronik WE-FAS RFID Flexible Absorbers
RFID and NFC antennas frequently under-perform – or fail entirely – when mounted on or near metal surfaces.
The metal de-tunes the antenna, shifts its resonant frequency away from 13.56 MHz and absorbs energy that should be coupling to the tag or reader.
The WE-FAS RFID Flexible Absorber range from Würth Elektronik is engineered to solve exactly this problem.
Placed between the antenna coil and the metal substrate, the high-permeability flexible sheet redirects the magnetic flux, restores read range and stabilises performance.
As an authorised converter, we supply this material from full sheets down to bespoke, ready-to-apply parts – die-cut, kiss-cut, slit or knife-cut to your drawing, with the factory-fitted self-adhesive backing already in place.
The material family
The WE-FAS RFID range is a family of thin, flexible magnetic absorber sheets optimised for the 13.56 MHz HF RFID and NFC band.
Every variant is supplied with a 0.03 mm double-sided adhesive tape and release liner already applied, so finished parts can be peeled and stuck directly to the host PCB, antenna module or enclosure.
All grades are non-inflammable / self-extinguishing and are RoHS and REACh compliant.
The family splits into two complementary grades:
-
WE-FAS 314xx series – a flexible rubber composite filled with ferrite powder, with a typical relative permeability µ' of 25 at 13.56 MHz and an extended operating window up to +90 °C. Ideal where elevated temperatures are expected or where a moderate absorber is sufficient.
-
WE-FAS 334xx series – a special flame-retardant rubber loaded with metal powder, giving a higher typical µ' of 55 at 13.56 MHz for maximum decoupling from metal in compact designs. Rated up to +60 °C.
Each grade is offered in three nominal thicknesses – 0.10, 0.20 and 0.30 mm – allowing designers to trade absorber performance against available headroom.
Typical applications
Wherever a 13.56 MHz antenna meets a metal surface, this material has a role to play:
-
On-metal NFC and RFID tags for asset tracking, logistics, returnable transit packaging and tool management.
-
NFC antennas in smartphones, wearables, payment terminals and access-control readers, decoupling the coil from internal shielding cans, batteries and metalwork.
-
Contactless smart cards and key fobs incorporating metal cores, foils or decorative inserts.
-
Industrial RFID inlays mounted on machinery, metal pallets, IBCs and gas cylinders.
-
Wireless charging coils operating in the same frequency neighbourhood, used as a thin magnetic shield between the coil and the device chassis.
-
EMC mitigation for HF and low-VHF noise where a thin, conformable, non-conductive absorber is preferred over rigid ferrite tiles.

How we convert the WE-PCM range
WE-FAS RFID Flexible Absorber sheets processed to your exact requirements using our precision Die-Cutting and CNC-Knife Table machinery.
Whether you need high-volume repeatable parts or low-quantity prototypes in complex profiles, we can deliver cut-to-shape pieces ready for direct integration into your assembly.
Our processing capabilities include:
Die-Cutting
Ideal for high-volume production runs requiring consistent, repeatable shapes with tight tolerances.
Tooled dies produce clean, burr-free edges through the ferrite rubber and adhesive layers simultaneously.
CNC-Knife Table Cutting
Perfect for prototypes, development samples, and low-to-medium volume runs where bespoke shapes or frequent design changes make hard tooling impractical. No tooling cost and fast turnaround.
Because the material is supplied to us in sheet form and already carries its own adhesive backing, parts leave our facility with the release liner intact, ready for immediate peel-and-stick installation on your antenna layout, housing, or component.
