Felt Materials

Felt Material Range
We stock and convert a range of felt materials spanning natural wool, synthetic, and blended grades. This variety means we can match the right material to the demands of your application, whether that is firmness, fire performance, oil resistance, acoustic properties, or a lightweight, smooth surface finish.
Wool Felt — Firm and Extra Firm Grades (W35 / W40)
Our pressed wool felts are manufactured from 97% wool to BS4060:2006 and are available in firm (W35) and extra firm (W40) grades, with thicknesses from 3 mm up to 25 mm. Key characteristics include:
-
Self-extinguishing reaction to flame
-
Excellent ozone resistance
-
Firm, stable structure that holds its shape under compression
-
Not resistant to strong acids or alkalis — suited to neutral environments
Wool Felt — Oil Sealing Grade (36 Density)
This specialist pressed woollen felt (minimum 90% wool, designation BS4060:2006) is formulated specifically for oil retention and sealing. It provides:
-
Minimum 120% oil retention capacity
-
Controlled water shrink (max 10%) and swell (max 20%) characteristics
-
A neutral pH (5–8), making it compatible with a wide range of sealing environments
Polyester Felt — Heavy Duty (CST-01, 600 GSM)
A stiffened, mechanically and thermo-bonded nonwoven polyester felt at 600 GSM and 3 mm thickness. Its high density gives it:
-
Strong dimensional stability — resists sagging and distortion, making it suitable for structured inserts and liners
-
Effective acoustic absorption and vibration dampening
-
Flammability performance meeting FMVSS 302 (<100 mm/min burn rate)
Acrylic Needlefelt — Lightweight Black (FA210A)
A calendered synthetic needlefelt produced from acrylic staple fibres. At 210 g/m² and 1 mm thick, it is a lightweight, smooth-surfaced option in black, well suited to applications where a clean, consistent finish is required.
Fire-Rated Felt (J1460 FR)
A 70% viscose / 30% wool blend classified to EN13501-1 Class B s2 d0 — a recognised fire performance standard for interior applications. At approximately 0.9 mm thick and 185 cm wide, it combines fire safety compliance with a flexible, low-profile form.
Typical applications
The products we can produce from these felt grades cover a wide range of industrial, commercial, and general-purpose uses:
-
Gaskets, wicks, and oil-retention seals (oil sealing grade)
-
Vibration dampening pads, strips, and isolation mounts
-
Acoustic insulation components and lining panels
-
Industrial wiper pads and applicator felts
-
Furniture protection pads and surface protectors
-
Fire-rated interior lining and acoustic panels (using J1460 FR grade)
-
Craft, upholstery, and decorative cut parts

How we convert Felt Materials
We convert felt materials using a combination of precision cutting machinery to produce custom components to your specification.
Die-Cutting
Using hardened cutting tools, die-cutting is suited to medium and high volume production of consistent, repeatable shapes. Ideal where the same part is required in quantity.
CNC Knife Table
Our CNC knife table is computer-controlled, allowing complex profiles and intricate shapes to be cut directly from digital files. No dedicated tooling is required, making it cost-effective for prototyping, short runs, or parts with frequent design changes.
Reel-to-Reel Slitting and Lathe Slitting
For felt grades supplied on rolls, we can slit material to precise widths using our reel-to-reel slitting equipment, or produce width-specific strips via lathe slitting (log cutting). This is useful where narrow rolls or strips of consistent width are required.
Kiss-Cutting
Also available for roll-fed grades, kiss-cutting cuts components through the felt & adhesive while leaving an intact backing sheet. The result is a peel-and-use part that is easy to handle and apply — commonly used for self-adhesive pads and gaskets.
Adhesive Backing
Where required, we can apply a self-adhesive backing to felt components using our tape lamination equipment. This is done selectively depending on the grade and end-use requirement, giving customers a ready-to-apply part that requires no additional bonding.
