VHB Tape Converting

VHB Tape Converting Range
VHB acrylic foam bonding tapes are double-sided foam tapes built around a conformable acrylic foam core, with acrylic adhesive impregnated into the foam structure. They are supplied as a family of products that share the same core construction but differ in thickness, colour, adhesive type and temperature performance, allowing the right grade to be matched to each bonding requirement.
Across the range, the tapes bond to a broad mix of substrates including metals, glass, many plastics and a wide variety of painted and powder-coated surfaces. The conformable foam core maintains contact between surfaces that are slightly mismatched or irregular, and the pressure-sensitive adhesive grips on contact to give immediate handling strength.
Key properties and benefits of the family include:
-
Permanent double-sided bond that can replace mechanical fasteners such as rivets, screws and welds, as well as liquid adhesives.
-
Virtually invisible fastening that keeps surfaces smooth, with no drilling, grinding or refinishing required.
-
Conformable foam core that accommodates slightly mismatched or irregular surfaces and bonds dissimilar materials together.
-
Creates a sealed bond line that helps protect against water and moisture ingress.
-
Viscoelastic core that absorbs stress and tolerates differential thermal expansion and contraction between bonded parts.
-
Available in thicknesses from 0.4 mm to 1.6 mm and in black, grey and white to suit different load, gap and appearance requirements.
-
Specialist grades within the family extend performance further: a low surface energy grade bonds many plastics such as polypropylene without a primer, high-temperature grades withstand paint-bake cycles, and a multi-purpose grade bonds plasticised vinyl and carries GREENGUARD certification.
Typical applications
Once converted, and with the tape's existing double-sided adhesive, these foam tapes are used to produce a wide range of bonding and mounting components. Typical converted products and applications include:
-
Die-cut bonding pads, gaskets and mounting components in custom shapes for assembly lines.
-
Adhesive strips and tabs for attaching panels, trims, fascias and decorative elements.
-
Mounting components for signage, nameplates, badges and point-of-sale displays.
-
Bonding tapes for architectural metal panels, cladding, stiffeners and infill panels.
-
Components for equipment enclosures, metal cabinets, electrical housings and appliances.
-
Sealing and bonding strips that join dissimilar materials such as metal to glass or plastic.
-
High-temperature bonding components for assemblies that pass through powder-coat or paint-bake processes.
-
Bonding parts for transport, electronics, white goods, construction and general industrial assembly.
Because the foam core absorbs stress and tolerates differential movement, these converted parts are well suited to bonding rigid panels, joining materials with different expansion rates, and replacing visible mechanical fixings.

How we convert Foam Bonding Tapes
Die-Cutting
We die-cut the tape into custom pads, strips, gaskets and profiled shapes. This is well suited to repeatable production of two-dimensional parts in a wide range of shapes, supplied as individual pieces or on a backing liner for easy application. We can produce most shapes, though not every possible shape.
Kiss-Cutting
We kiss-cut the tape on its liner so that the tape is cut to shape while the backing liner remains intact. This delivers parts on a carrier liner that can be peeled and placed by hand, which is ideal for multi-part kits and faster application on the assembly line.
CNC Knife Table Cutting
Our CNC knife table cuts larger sheets, longer lengths and lower-volume or prototype shapes directly from program, without the need for a cutting tool. This suits bigger parts, one-off runs and components that change frequently.
Lathe Slitting (Log Cutting)
Using lathe slitting, also known as log cutting, we cut wound logs of tape into precise widths. This is suited to producing narrow rolls and specific tape widths in volume.
Because these tapes already carry adhesive on both sides, no additional adhesive backing is required. We convert each order to the format, shape and width that best suits the customer's product and application, supplied ready for use.
